Frequently asked questions

What is an independent insurance agency?

The American Insurance Group is an independent agency. An independent agency does not work directly for any insurance provider, and can write insurance policies with multiple companies.

This allows the agency to place its loyalty with you, rather than to one insurance company. Unlike an independent agency, a captive agency (for example, Farmers or State Farm) can only write policies for one company.

As an independent agency, our responsibility (and promise) is to make sure that you, our client, are taken care of and protected. We will be your advocate to make sure you are well-covered by the best insurance carrier that fits your specific needs.

Why would I need an umbrella policy for my business?

Most business owners don’t think about the possibility of a lawsuit when getting insurance for their business, but the risk is real! Liability coverage protects the business from risks such as bodily injury or property damage that your business could be held liable for.

An umbrella policy provides you with extra liability coverage that can be used to help settle a claim before it goes to court. The more liability coverage you have, the more wiggle room your insurance carrier has to settle the suit.

Why types of insurance coverage do I need?

Simple answer: that can vary widely based on your business. It’s best to consult with an agent from The American Insurance Group who can talk through your specific risks and exposures, as well as how to best protect against those.

Still, most businesses will need at least these three basic coverages:

1) General Liability: this coverage protects your business from bodily injury or property damage that your business could be held liable for.

2) Professional Liability: this coverage provides protection for errors and omissions you may make related to advice or services you provide to your clients.

3) Property Insurance: property coverage provides insurance protection for any property your business owns or property of others that may be in your care, custody, or control.

4) Business Interruption Coverage: this coverage provides payment for lost income or revenue while the business cannot operate due to the covered loss.

Do I really need life insurance?

No one expects to die from a sudden accident or tragedy. Still, it happens, and you don't want to leave your family in a position where their future dreams die with you.

Term life insurance is very affordable. Most insurance experts recommend you have 10 times your annual income in life insurance, in order to provide for your family in case of an unexpected tragedy.
